You may freely use and distribute this CD for non-profit use only. You may not charge any fees to use or redistribute the CD. If you are a faculty member and want your students to have access to the CD, then please make the CD available on your site to reduce traffic on my site.

Follow these steps to download and run the CD.

  1. Download the PTK 6.0 CD Zip File last updated on 15Jan08. This file is about 470 MB, so you should not attempt to download it at modem speeds.
  2. Scan ptk60.zip for viruses. I have scanned the file for viruses and you must also scan the file for viruses before using it. You must agree not to hold me responsible for any viruses not detected by this double scan of the file.
  3. Unzip ptk60.zip to a folder named ptk60 on the root of your C drive.
  4. Double click on auto.exe in the ptk60 folder to run the software.
  5. Once auto.exe starts, click on Browser, then click on Getting Started in the left frame for information.
  6. If you wish to create a CD, then burn all the files and folders within the ptk60 folder to a CD. Do not simply copy the ptk60 folder to the CD, as the files in the root of the ptk60 folder must be on the root of the CD for it to auto play.

When running an application, use the Help menu item. Most applications will have a Help - Turn Local Help On menu item you may use to get help. Also, read all message boxes that pop up carefully until you are familiar with the software.

Most of the applications are written in Visual Basic 5.0 and should run without any problems on most Windows 95 or newer operating systems. If they don't run, then try running setup.exe in the ptk60 folder, or download and install the VB 5.0 runtime files from Microsoft at VB 5 Runtime.

Applications will not run on Apple computers without a pc emulator. However, all documents are written in html and may be accessed using the index.htm file in the ptk60 folder.

Editing video files in Lecture Notes requires you have Windows Media Player installed on your computer. You can download and install it from Microsoft at Media Player/Encoder Download.

Creating audio files in Lecture Notes requires you have Windows Media Encoder installed on your computer. You can download and install it from Microsoft at Media Player/Encoder Download.

I use a Wacom Tablet to write on lecture notes.

If you find any problems with these files, or with other applications on the CD, then report these problems at my email address below using the subject heading Physics ToolKit.
